St Tychon was born in the city Amathus (modern-day Limassol) in Cyprus. His parents raised their son in Christian piety, and taught him the reading of sacred books. There is an account that the gift of wonderworking appeared in Tykhon while still at quite a youthful age. This pious youth entered the church clergy as a reader, and afterwards the bishop of Amathus Memnon ordained him a deacon. After Memnon’s death, Tykhon was chosen as bishop of Amathus. His enthronement was headed by St Epiphanius of Salamis (†403, Comm. 12 May). Tychon	labored zealously for the spread of the Christian faith. He was generous, his doors were open to all, and with love he listened to and fulfilled the request of each person who came to him. Fearing neither threats nor tortures, he firmly and fearlessly confessed his faith before pagans. It is pointed out that he foresaw the time of his death, which occurred in the year 425. His name was accorded great honor in Russia, where churches in his honor were constructed at Moscow, at Nizhni Novgorod, at Kazan and other cities.           Prologue from Ochrid; Translated by Fr S.
