τό στερέωμα.

ἡμέρᾳ ἐρεύγεται
ῥῆμα, καί νύξ νυκτί ἀναγγέλλει
γνῶσιν.

Οὐκ εἰσί λαλιαί, οὐδέ
λόγοι, ὧν οὐχί ἀκούονται

Εἰς πᾶσαν τήν γῆν
ἐξῆλθεν ὁ
φθόγγος αὐτῶν, καί εἰς
τά πέρατα τῆς οἰκουμένης τά ῥήματα

᾽Επακοῦσαί σου
Κύριος ἐν ἡμέρᾳ
θλίψεως, ὑπερασπίσαί σου τό ὄνομα
τοῦ Θεοῦ ᾽Ιακώβ.
2 ᾽Εξαποστεῖλαί σοι βοήθειαν ἐξ ἁγίου, καί ἐκ Σιών ἀντιλάβοιτό σου.
3 Μνησθείη πάσης θυσίας σου, καί τό ὁλοκαύτωμά σου πιανάτω.
Σῶσον ἡμᾶς, Παράκλητε ἀγαθέ, ψάλλοντάς σοι· Ἀλληλούϊα.

1 Κύριε, ἐν τῇ δυνάμει σου εὐφρανθήσεται ὁ Βασιλεύς, καί ἐπί τῷ σωτηρίῳ σου ἀγαλλιάσεται σφόδρα.
2 Τήν ἐπιθυμίαν τῆς καρδίας αὐτοῦ ἔδωκας αὐτῷ, καί τήν θέλησιν τῶν χειλέων αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἐστέρησας αὐτόν.
3 ῞Οτι προέφθασας
αὐτόν ἐν εὐλογίαις χρηστότητος, ἔθηκας ἐπί τήν κεφαλήν αὐτοῦ στέφανον ἐκ λίθου τιμίου.
4 Ζωήν ᾐτήσατό σε, καί ἔδωκας αὐτῷ μακρότητα ἡμερῶν εἰς αἰῶνα αἰῶνος.

Ὅτε καταβὰς τὰς γλῶσσας συνέχεε, διεμέριζεν ἔθνη ὁ
Ὕψιστος, ὅτε τοῦ πυρὸς τὰς γλῶσσας διένειμεν, εἰς ἑνότητα πάντας ἐκάλεσε, καὶ
συμφώνως δοξάζομεν τὸ πανάγιον Πνεῦμα.

Ὅσοι εἰς Χριστὸν ἐβαπτίσθητε, Χριστὸν ἐνεδύσασθε· ᾽Αλληλούϊα.

Μὴ τῆς φθορᾶς διαπείρα κυοφορήσασα, καὶ παντεχνήμονι

χωρίον τοῦ ἀπείρου πλαστουργοῦ σου, σὲ μεγαλύνομεν.

As
he proceeds, Cosmas the Melodist (8th c.) adds one more miracle,
saying: You are the vessel of the
irresistible; you have received the One whom no one can sustain, that is,
bear. For no one can ever sustain the
divine nature, not even pure intellects themselves. Therefore, the Lord put on flesh, so that
it might be a curtain, so to speak, and a cover of His divinity. And you, O
Lady, have received the irresistible, who dwelt in your womb. In addition, he
states this paradox: You are the container
of the infinite. Infinite denotes that which has neither beginning nor
end. Among what is, none is infinite,
except God alone; the rest are subject to both a beginning and an end. For everything has started to exist, and
shall have an end. Even the noetic and ministering Powers, despite being
incorrupt and by grace eternal, did themselves have a start. Only God is beyond time, since He neither
began existing, nor shall He cease to exist.
Therefore, He is called infinite. It was this infinite One, this timeless
One, this never-ending One that you contained, when He became subject to
time, by borrowing

He took from you, i.e., His flesh. You became the container of Him who cannot
be defined, nor confined, having contained Him inside you, in His entirety,
yet without restricting Him or limiting Him.
For even though He was contained in your belly, He was not confined in
it, remaining ever-present and filling all things, and truly being above all
things. As far as His nature is
concerned, He remained uncontainable; yet, because of His providence, He is

Where
are you now, most wise Solomon? You said: “There is nothing new under the
sun” (Eccl.
1:9).
Come, behold these new events concerning the Virgin. Was he perhaps a liar,
this most wise man, for having said so? No, for he said this about natural
phenomena, which are governed under the laws of nature. The decay of each of
these is the birth of another, according to the philosopher Aristotle. If
Solomon had spoken of supernatural things, he would have said many are new
