When the tidings of the resurrection from the glorious angel was proclaimed unto the women disciples, and our ancestral sentence also had been abolished, to the Apostles with boasting did they proclaim that death is vanquished ever more and Christ our God has risen from the dead, and granted to the world the great mercy.  (DLH, p. 84)

APOLYTIKION of the Hierarch Tone 8
By your accomplishments, you earned the name that you bore, for you were vigilant in prayer and diligent in working miracles. Therefore, holy father Gregory, intercede
with Christ our God, that He illumine our souls, lest we fall asleep in sin unto death.
APOLYTIKION of our Church (Holy Trinity) Tone 8
O Blessed are you, O Christ our God, who by sending down the Holy Spirit upon them, made the fishermen wise and through them illumined the world.  And unto you, the universe was ever drawn, all glory to you, O God.  (DLH, p. 115)
APOLYTIKION of our Church (St. Nicholas)Tone 4  (DLH, p. 110)
As a yardstick of faith and an icon of gentleness; as a teacher of temperance, your actual deeds have declared you as being among your flock.  In this manner you gained by humility, things most sublime, and through poverty earned true wealth.  Father and our hierarch St. Nicholas intercede with Christ our God that our souls may be saved.
KONTAKION of the Entry of the Theotokos – Tone 4
The most pure temple of our Lord and our Savior, the very precious chamber of His and virgin, the sacred treasure-chest of the glory of God: enters on this very day in the House of the Lord, ushering with her the grace in the all-holy Spirit.  She whom all God’s angels laud and praise, for she is truly, the heav’nly tabernacle.
Divine Liturgy Hymnal, p. 26:  TRISAGION.
DLH, p. 54: AT THE Especially…,  It is truly meet…
DLH, p. 66: KOINONIKON:  Praise the Lord…
DLH, p. 70: After Communion, We have seen the true light…
DLH, p. 74: Blessed be the Name of the Lord…
Divine Liturgy Hymnal, p. 78:  THE DISMISSAL:
May He Who is risen from the dead, Christ...
Hunger, homelessness and poverty (like pain, suffering and death) were for Jesus evils with which fallen man had to wrestle.  He personally enjoyed none of them: He abhorred them all.  Yet, He knew and taught that the only failsafe way to overcome them is to return to God’s kingdom, and that God is love even before He is judgment.  Similarly, having enough to eat, being housed or even being wealthy (like comfort, happiness and life) were for Jesus gifts from God, given to man to enjoy.  He Himself loved a good party [Jn 2:1], and evidently He and His disciples had a good time there, much to the consternation of rigorists [Lk 7:34].  Although the concept of stewardship of wealth as a loan from God is certainly biblical [Lk 16:2], it is not central in Jesus’ attitude, since it retains a considerable transactional, legalistic flavor. Jesus’ own emphasis is relational, and that makes love primary.  This explains why He was well-pleased with the waste of the precious myrrh
[Lk 7:37-50].  “Jesus was not interested in any new theories about the rightness or wrongness of possessions per se, about the origin of property or its better distribution; rather He adopted the same scandalously free and untrammeled attitude to property as to the powers of the state, the alien Roman rule and its Jewish confederates.  The imminence of the kingdom of God robs all these things of their power de facto, for in it ‘many that are first will be last, and the last first’ [Lk 13:30]” (M.HENGEL, 1974).  To be sure, however, wealth captures hearts, blinds eyes, dominates, can be worshiped, longed for, and tied to.  Mammon is the commanding devil of all the forces that war against God. The money lust is radical in our natures, and will forever need all the powers of God-head to make stand against it.  A wind that sets constant in one direction demands, for the equipoise of the yacht, that the crew throw their weight steadily in the opposite direction” (B.WHITE, 1914).                         A.M.
