APOLYTIKION
of All Saints – Tone 4
Your Church is arrayed in the holy blood of Your
Martyrs who witnessed throughout the world, as though in purple and fine
linen. Through them she cries to You, Christ our God, “Send down to Your

our souls Your great mercy.” (FSD)
APOLYTIKION

O inspirers and participants of the second great
council, who a hundred and fifty in number are divine and blessed hierarchs,
by wisdom filled mouths you have preached, the power of the Spirit who is

destructive schisms, all those who chant united to you: Glory to God who works wonders through you,
glory to Him who magnified you, glory to Him who in you assures the minds of
the faithful.

Nicholas intercede with Christ our God that our souls may be saved.

Although
we honor saints, honor must never
be confused with worship, because we certainly do not worship Saints; they,
like us are servants of God. Unlike honor, worship applies to God alone;
therefore, we honor and venerate the saints. What is most unfortunate today
is that most people honor and venerate and sometimes even worship actors,
singers, football players and other sports stars. I often ask myself, why do
people love the so-called stars and celebrities so much? What is so important
about these people, that we should keep their pictures on our walls? Have
they helped us in any way? We sadly turn these poor creatures of God into
idols, we become excited seeing and hearing them, and we support everything
they do. If only the younger generation was to hear or read what our saints
|
underwent,
the tortures, the mockery, the abuse, all for the love of Christ, then they
would be putting them up on their walls and would strive to become like them,
because it is they, who are the true heroes. Celebrities are also known as
stars; but there is another type of stars which shine with divine light: they
are all God’s saints. It is that they who listen to our prayers and pray for
our salvation, as they are in a position to do so, for they are in Heaven.
Celebrities become distractions to people. If only they used their fame to
bring people back to God. Let us then, turn to the real stars and follow
their footsteps into eternity. Let us too, become as they were, imitators of
Christ and living examples for the generations to come.
