Ἀντίφωνον α´ – Ἦχος β´ 1 Εὐλόγει ἡ ψυχή μου τὸν Κύριον, καὶ πάντα τὰ ἐντός μου τὸ ὄνομα τὸ ἅγιον αὐτοῦ. 2 Εὐλόγει ἡ ψυχή μου τὸν Κύριον, καὶ μὴ ἐπιλανθάνου πάσας τὰς ἀνταποδόσεις αὐτοῦ. 3 Κύριος ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ ἡτοίμασε τὸν θρόνον αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἡ βασιλεία αὐτοῦ πάντων δεσπόζει.     Ταῖς πρεσβείαις τῆς Θεοτόκου, Σῶτερ, σῶσον ἡμᾶς. Ἀντίφωνον β´ – Ἦχος ὁ αὐτός 1 Αἴνει ἡ ψυχή μου τὸν Κύριον, αἰνέσω Κύριον ἐν τῇ ζωῇ μου, ψαλῶ τῷ Θεῷ μου ἕως ὑπάρχω. 2 Μακάριος οὗ ὁ Θεὸς Ἰακὼβ βοηθὸς αὐτοῦ, ἡ ἐλπὶς αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ Κύριον τὸν Θεὸν αὐτοῦ. 3 Βασιλεύσει Κύριος εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα, ὁ Θεός σου, Σιών, εἰς γενεὰν καὶ γενεάν.     Σῶσον ἡμᾶς, Υἱὲ Θεοῦ, ὁ ἀναστὰς ἐκ νεκρῶν, ψάλλοντάς σοι· Ἀλληλούϊα. Ἀπολυτίκιον –  Ἦχος βαρὺς Κατέλυσας τῷ Σταυρῷ σου τὸν θάνατον, ἠνέωξας τῷ Ληστῇ τὸν Παράδεισον, τῶν Μυροφόρων τὸν θρῆνον μετέβαλες, καὶ τοῖς σοῖς Ἀποστόλοις κηρύττειν ἐπέταξας, ὅτι ἀνέστης Χριστὲ ὁ Θεός, παρέχων τῷ κόσμῳ τὸ μέγα ἔλεος. APOLYTIKION resurrectional of the tone of the day – Tone 7 O Lord by Your sacred Cross You abolished death, and granted unto the thief blessed paradise.  The myrrh- bearers ceased lamenting and turned to joy.  The apostles did preach the Good News at your command, that You had risen from the dead O Christ our God, bestowing Your mercy upon the world ever more.                 (DLH, p. 87) APOLYTIKION of the Eisodia (=Entry) of the Theotokos into the Temple – Tone 4 On this day, our God’s benevolent pleasure is ushered in, and the Lord’s salvation for humanity is declared.  In the temple of God, the Virgin is boldly made manifest, and before all the Christ she is fore-witnessing.  To her let us all now cry with a mighty voice:  Hail you, the fulfillment of the Creator’s dispensation.  APOLYTIKION of our Church (Holy Trinity) – Tone 8 O Blessed are you, O Christ our God, who by sending down the Holy Spirit upon them, made the fishermen wise and through them illumined the world.  And unto you, the universe was ever drawn, all glory to you, O God. (DLH, p. 115) APOLYTIKION of our Church (St. Nicholas) – Tone 4(DLH, p. 110) As a yardstick of faith and an icon of gentleness; as a teacher of temperance, your actual deeds have declared you as being among your flock.  In this manner you gained by humility, things most sublime, and through poverty earned true wealth.  Father and our hierarch St. Nicholas intercede with Christ our God that our souls may be saved. KONTAKION of the Entry of the Theotokos – Tone 4 The most pure temple of our Lord and our Savior, the very precious chamber of His and virgin, the sacred treasure-chest of the glory of God: enters on this very day in the House of the Lord, ushering with her the grace in the all-holy Spirit.  She whom all God’s angels laud and praise, for she is truly, the heav’nly tabernacle. The foolish rich man transgressed in a number of different ways. First, he ignored one of life's greatest teachers: death. He was so busy worrying about accumulating more wealth that he did not envision an end to his life. Here is a pithy saying: "All of us will surely die, but will any of us ever really live?" In order to really live we must not run from the remembrance of death. Secondly, the rich man did not care for the poor. He forgot that every treasure in this life withers and fades; that God gives in abundance so that we can share in abundance; and that since all human beings are interconnected, the suffering of one equals the suffering of all. The truly rich are people who are rich in compassion even though they may have nothing in the bank. We do not own anything. What we have belongs to God and to those who are in need. Remember: "All the happiness there is in	the world comes from thinking about others, and all the suffering in the world comes from preoccupation with the self." Lastly, the foolish rich man ignored God, whose treasures are eternal. "Seek first the kingdom of God," Jesus taught, but to do that we must stop trying to establish our own kingdoms here. Jesus taught: "Take up your cross and follow me." To save our lives we must lose them. To preserve our lives we must give them up. To become great we must become small. All that God teaches is contrary to conventional wisdom. The foolish rich man ran away from death and discovered himself racing into its arms. He hoarded his wealth and found himself impoverished in eternity. He ignored God who alone had the power to give him what his heart truly desired - peace, security, eternal life - and ended up empty handed.        FR ANTONY HUGHES
