Ἀντίφωνον α´ – Ἦχος β´ 1 Εὐλόγει ἡ ψυχή μου τὸν Κύριον, καὶ πάντα τὰ ἐντός μου τὸ ὄνομα τὸ ἅγιον αὐτοῦ. 2 Εὐλόγει ἡ ψυχή μου τὸν Κύριον, καὶ μὴ ἐπιλανθάνου πάσας τὰς ἀνταποδόσεις αὐτοῦ. 3 Κύριος ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ ἡτοίμασε τὸν θρόνον αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἡ βασιλεία αὐτοῦ πάντων δεσπόζει.     Ταῖς πρεσβείαις τῆς Θεοτόκου, Σῶτερ, σῶσον ἡμᾶς. KONTAKION of the Entry of the Theotokos – Tone 4 The most pure temple of our Lord and our Savior, the very precious chamber of His and virgin, the sacred treasure-chest of the glory of God: enters on this very day in the House of the Lord, ushering with her the grace in the all-holy Spirit.  She whom all God’s angels laud and praise, for she is truly, the heav’nly tabernacle. Jericho is an image of this world. Adam, cast out from Paradise, that heavenly Jerusalem, descended to worldly Jericho by the mistake of his transgression; he departed from the living and he went to hell.  The change was not one of place but of conduct, which became his natural exile. He was greatly changed away from that Adam who had enjoyed eternal blessedness.  Adam turned aside to worldly sins, and then he fell among thieves; among them he would have never fallen had he not strayed from the divine commandment. This is how he made himself vulnerable to the thieves. Who are those thieves, if not the angels of night and darkness, who sometimes transform themselves into angels of light but cannot persevere? They first steal the clothes of spiritual grace that we have received at baptism and then they inflict wounds on us. If we preserve unstained the garments we have put on, the robbers' blows cannot reach our bodies. Beware, lest you also be first	stray from the divine command, then be defrauded of protection, and finally be divested of the garment of faith. Adam received a mortal wound by which the whole human race would have perished if that Samaritan, on his journey, had not tended to his serious injuries. It is a great surprise that the third traveler is a Samaritan and he is portrayed as the hero in the story: this Samaritan is none other than Christ. By binding up the wounds of the man, the Samaritan shows that he has many remedies for healing. The next day, when he arrives, is the Lord's day, the day of resurrection. The two pence he offers are the two Testaments for preaching the gospel, for the inn-keeper is a steward of the mysteries. The text exposes those who seem to themselves to be experts on the law, who keep the letter of the law but disregard its spirit. The lawyer did not know his neighbor, because he did not know Christ. Therefore, he does not know the law either.ST AMBROSE OF MILAN (340-397)
