The sea saw it and fled: Jordan
was driven back. [Ps

Through
the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Savior, save us.

Merciful is the Lord, and righteous; yea, our God continues to bestow mercy. [Psalm 115:5]

forever. [Psalm 117:4]
APOLYTIKION
of Theophany – Tone 1
As You were baptized
in the Jordan, O Lord, then was the worship of the Trinity made manifest, for
the voice of the Father bore witness to You, naming You the Beloved Son; and
the Spirit, in the form of a dove, confirmed the certainty of the word. O
Christ God, who appeared and illumined the world, glory to You.
EISODIKON –Tone 2
Come,
let us worship and fall down before Christ. Save us, O Son of God, Who are
risen from the dead; who sing to….
APOLYTIKION resurrectional of the tone of the
day – Tone 7
O Lord by Your
sacred Cross You abolished death, and granted unto the thief blessed
paradise. The myrrh- bearers ceased
lamenting and turned to joy. The
apostles did preach the Good News at your command, that You had risen from
the dead O Christ our God, bestowing Your mercy upon the world ever
more. (DLH, p. 87)
APOLYTIKION

APOLYTIKION
of our Church (Holy Trinity) – Tone 8
O Blessed are you, O Christ our God, who by sending
down the Holy Spirit upon them, made the fishermen wise and through them
illumined the world. And unto you, the
universe was ever drawn, all glory to you, O God. (DLH,
p. 115)
APOLYTIKION
of our Church (St. Nicholas) – Tone 4
(DLH, p. 110)
As a yardstick of faith and an icon of
gentleness; as a teacher of temperance, your actual deeds have declared you
as being among your flock. In this
manner you gained by humility, things most sublime, and through poverty
earned true wealth. Father and our
hierarch St. Nicholas intercede with Christ our God that our souls may be
saved.
KONTAKION of
Theophany – Tone 4
You appeared to us on earth today, O Master, and Your light was
signed on us who cry aloud to You and say with understanding, O Christ our
God: You came and shone forth, O Light unapproachable. (FSD)

Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at
hand! Christ is saying “turn towards me, come home where you belong.”
Repentance
is not a threat (acknowledge our sin or else!), Repentance is a gift. The
Kingdom of Heaven is at hand in fact it is within us. All that God is asking
us to do is to give up our death. In the Orthodox Church Repentance is a way
of life. It is not just a moment in time when we realize that we want to
serve our good God for the rest of our lives.
I
suppose it would be helpful to explain what we mean by repentance. The Greek
term for repentance, metanoia,
indicates an ongoing change of mind, a reorientation, a fundamental
transformation of our vision of the world and of ourselves, and a new way of
loving others and God. In the words of a second-century text, The Shepherd of Hermas, metanoia
implies “great understanding and discernment”. It is not just regret of a
past sinful act but a recognition that we have an illness that has separated
us from God. This
|
illness
is called Sin. An Orthodox Christian, views repentance as an ongoing act of accountability to God and to his
brothers and sisters. It is not pining
away in a self-absorbed feeling of guilt or shame. We repent in the face of
God; and we repent in communion with others, in the Church. Repentance in the
early Church was in fact a public act of reconciliation. The sacrament of repentance (confession) is
not a private procedure, a treatment of some guilt-ridden individual on an
analyst’s couch. It is not based on an admission of guilt and certainly
cannot be reduced to a feeling of guilt. Repentance is related to what is deepest
in us, to what constitutes our being and our relationship with other human
beings as well as with God. It is a sacrament. Repentance re-establishes the
bond of union between God and man and between man and man. It has the force
of healing, of making us whole.
